The best gravel for your driveway depends on your driveway needs, your price point, and aesthetics. For the best driveway gravel we recommend either crusher run or ¾ limestone gravel.
Crusher run is a more compact, less uniform stone that will pack down over time and provide a very sturdy base for a drive. It is also the most cost effective driveway gravel option.
¾ limestone gravel is similar in size to crusher run, but because of it’s composition it allows for better drainage through driveways. If your driveway often battles getting washed away or creating ruts over time, ¾ limestone gravel allows for better drainage that can lead to a longer lasting driveway. This product is a little more expensive than Crusher Run, but may be worth it in the long run for your driveway!

Top soil and fill dirt mainly differ in their composition. Top soil is a much cleaner soil that has been screened to remove any large debris. This soil is best for gardening, yard repairs, and grading. Fill dirt is not screened to remove debris so it often includes large chunks, roots, rocks, and other debris. This dirt is often used for grading and structural projects and is not suitable for gardening or yard maintenance.

When laying a gravel driveway, we recommend aiming for a 2-3inch depth for the length of the driveway.
The tonnage depends widely on the length and width of your driveway.
Please check out our Material Calculate that can give you a strong estimate on the amount needed for your specific driveway. For further questions please email or call to get a professional opinion to ensure you don’t over- or underbuy!
